P-town

What do you think of when you think of P-town?  Beautiful sunsets… tea dance… shopping… partying… food… a welcoming environment… all of the above??  Provincetown, MA is a special place for many people, especially members of the LGBTQ community.  Located at the very tip of Cape Cod, P-town has been an oasis for our community for decades.  Each summer, thousands upon thousands of tourists arrive, via car, ferry, plane, or seaplane (!) to live it up in this one of a kind destination.  With a year round population of about 3,000, the summer population can swell to 60,000.  Things can get pretty packed.

So why is a lawyer writing about P-town?  Well, it’s that “living it up” part I just mentioned.  As a criminal defense attorney, many of the cases that I handle began with a person or a group going out for a night on the town.  When something goes wrong, that night on the town can become a nightmare.  Nobody likes getting involved with the police when on vacation, but sometimes it happens.  If you are in P-town, and either are arrested or issued a Summons to appear in court, you will be going to the Orleans District Court.  This court is the closest to P-town and additionally covers Truro, Wellfleet, and other nearby Cape towns.

In my guide to a “typical case in the District / Boston Municipal Courts” I have listed the usual route that new criminal cases take in court.  Whether you are held and transported into court, released from the police station on bail, or summonsed to appear at a later date, all criminal matters in P-town are heard at the Orleans District Court.  Whether you live in Boston or Austin, TX, you will be expected to appear in-person at your Arraignment, and then again on the Trial date.  The Orleans District Court is generally willing to hold pre-trial hearings via Zoom, but such accommodations must be requested by your attorney.

I have represented criminal defendants in the Orleans District Court with great outcomes, from outright dismissal of the charges to favorable pre-trial dispositions.  If you have a case in the Orleans District Court and you want a Boston attorney who knows your community, I am here for you.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me for a judgment free, free consultation.
